A serious review of Human Rights Act

Comment 14th July 2010

The Act was framed after the atrocities of the 2nd World War. Nothing in the lives of law abiding citizens has changed since we adopted it a few years ago. The only time one hears of it is in relation to people who have committed criminal acts or illegal immigrants. They seem to be the main beneficiares of it;  as well as all the lawyers.

One hears the argument that it is against their rights for prisoners not to have the vote. They are invariably only there because they have infringed other people's rights.

Our Supreme Court should be the final arbiter of all judicial matters in this country and we should not in any circumstances allow our jurisdiction to pass to a European Court.

Why does this matter?

Because it would give us full control over our national legal affairs again.
