abolish national insurance

Comment 5th July 2010

Instead of collecting two taxes, NI and Income Tax, why not abolish NI altogether and raise the additional income from a higher Income tax level.

– it would reduce the number of staff needed to collect one tax.

– it would be fairer as all pay a percentage of income (no ceiling level of contributions for higher earners)

-reduces burden on businesses

– is easier to control ie raise or reduce tax take.

Why does this matter?

– reduces staff and departmental costs of administering two systems.

– is fairer to all with no ceiling level of contributions for higher earners.

– reduces business burden with individual responsibility for taxation.

– is clearer and fairer for individuals to understand.
