The abolition of the position of Mayor of London and the abolition of the London Assembly

Why does this matter?

The Mayor of London is a pointless position which achieves little except high-profile polictical conflict throughout the capital. London's boroughs can work together effectively for the common good and the role is highly political in nature when it really needs councils to have clear strategic vision. The role of Mayor is about sweeping political statements, such as the removal of the police commissioner – it is not a role which 'does detail'. It has offices round the world to promote London – what a waste. The Mayor also has too many powers which could be abused, particularly with respect to appointments of personnel.
