Abolish the post of deputy prime minister

Comment 15th March 2013

This post has no constitutional history in our political system, in fact it goes against the conventions of our unwritten constitution by assuming a line of succession. The deputy prime minister has no official powers and therefore no ability to affect real change, it is at best a ceremonial post, and one that only seeks to distract people from the real issues. Although it is non-salaried it inevitably costs the tax payer due to various ministerial privileges, for very little gain. It is unnecessary and should be abolished.

Why does this matter?

The post of deputy prime minister wastes tax payer's money with no meaningful results in return.
