Abolition of ID Cards and the National Identity Register

Dear Sir,

I invite you to repeal the legislation authoristing the creation of Identity Cards and the National Identity Register.

Why does this idea matter?

The ID Card scheme and National Identity register is a cost that cannot be afforded by Government or the individual.

Both programmes unnecessarily extend the State's incursions into the lives' of individuals beyond those required for the execution of its basic duties.

Neither programme will be absolutely secure and thus an occurance of a breach would have devestating effects on an individual.

The State cannot be trusted to properly regulate and maintain the date.

The data once stored could be subject to commercial use by subsequent governments.

Identity card and a national identity register have formed a basis for historically repressive regimes.

The individual will have inadequate supervision over the data's use.
