Amend Police Guidelines

Comment 8th July 2010

Police guidelines should not advise police officers to avoid  placing themselves at risk in situations where the lives of members of the public are in danger

Why does this matter?

There have been several cases recently where police officers have declined to rescue people who were drowning or in danger of drowning  on the grounds that police guidelines forbid them to do so.   This is riduculous.   Those who join our police forces should be clearly briefed that it is their duty to do whatever they can to help people in distress.   Firemen regularly risk their lives in efforts to rescue people and members of the police force should do likewise.
