Banning lorries on roads

Comment 6th July 2010

All lorries should be banned from our roads and motorways at weekends along the lines of the HGV restrictions currently in place in France.  Also lorry loads should be carried by the railways and money invested in freight.  Additionally all lorries should be banned from overtaking on two lane roads unless there are three lanes available.

Why does this matter?

Lorries are a menace to other road users especially the unregulated foreign lorries we now see more and more on our roads.  The railways are undersused and companies should be encouraged to use rail freight rather than road freight.  It would help keep roads safer and prolong their usability as HGV's cause too much damage.  Furthermore how many times do you get behind one lorry overtaking another for miles on end which slows journey times down and causes lengthy queues and frutration amongst other road users.
