Care allowance for over 65s

Comment 23rd July 2010

All carers over the age of 65 must be paid carers' allowance. I think it is an absolute disgrace that people like me have to care for disabled relatives without any financial help. Members of the Lords get £300 a day for turning up whilst carers over the age of 65 get an annual sum of £nil.

So much for your fairer society, I bet you will not change this situation!

Why does this matter?

There are millions of carers over the age of 65 who are saving the government millions of pounds because the carers cannot claim any money. My wife has recently been given some respite care in hospital which cost nearly £1000 pounds for one week. So why can't the carers be given a small proportion of this?
