compensation for inocent people

Comment 19th July 2010

Compensation should be payed to people who have been let down by the justice system

ie a person who has had there conviction quashed by the court of appeal not because of a technecality but because of newly diccovered facts should be automaticality entitled to compensation .

At the moment under Section 133(1) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 this is not the case .

People have had there freedom taken away because of corupt policeman or magistrights and then found to be innocent and still not entitled to compensation. This Litigation law should be looked at.

Why does this matter?

This is called the freedom act and I feel this should looked at by you because this is peoples freedom being taken away because the justice system has let them down and not to give them compensation is wrong.

If your conviction has been quashed by the court of appeal and they find that you where wrongly convicted. the law should automatically allow you to compensation.

This is very rare that it happens to somebody but when it does it has made such an impact on there life that to quash the conviction of the crime but not to award compensation makes no sense.
