Compulsory Competitive Tendering

Comment 27th August 2010

Scrap all the CCT laws that prevent local authorities from favouring local businesses.

Why does this matter?

At the moment the laws governing local government say that when they tender  for work, which they have to do because the law makes in compulsory, they have to accept the lowest tender in all but a few extreme cases.

If we change this so that local authorities can support their local economies by favouring local businesses over multinationals with call centres on the other side of the world the money spent will stay in the local community, the jobs it creates will go to those who live in the local community and those who receive the services should see the quality of those services improve.
