Countrywide 50MPH limit on minor roads

Comment 2nd July 2010

There should only be 3 speed limits:

70MPH on motorways and dual carriageways.

50MPH on other roads.

30MPH in built-up areas.

Only in exceptional circumstances should other limits be permitted.

Why does this matter?

There are four benefits:

It is becoming very difficult to drive in the country with speed limits changing every few minutes. Always being confident of the current speed limit will make the roads safer, especially for foreign drivers.

Most of the speed limit signs that clutter our countryside can be removed.

It will reduce the emissions from cars.

It will be safer for pedestrians and cyclists on country roads.
