Curb NHS holidays, creating more staff

Comment 3rd July 2010

Currently NHS staff get 12 weeks holiday a year.  That means they only work 9 months of every year.  If you cut the holiday to normal civil service 6 weeks you will increase the productivity of NHS staff by almost 12%.  For every 100 staff, you will gain the equivalent of another 11.5 people.

Why does this matter?

Everyone is always complaining that there aren't enough NHS staff.  There is no money to pay for any more but if all the staff currently working for the NHS worked the same amount as other workers, there would be more staff on duty without any more money needed.
