Data Protection charges

Comment 16th July 2010

remove the maximum fee which hospitals & GPs are allowed to charge for releasing medical records to solicitors pursuing compensation claims.

Why does this matter?

at the moment hospitals & GPs can only charge a maximum of £50 per request.  Often the medical records and x-rays are enormous.  the photocopying bill alone can often be much more than £50 but the NHS can't charge what it really costs.

Solicitors will pass on the higher cost of obtaining the records to the insurance company for whoever was at fault, but this will move the burden from the state to the private sector.
