Digital Radio

Comment 26th August 2010

Stop the expensive, unnecessary and non-beneficial changeover to digital radio

Why does this matter?

It is important because:

*   current analogue services, including FM, already provide high sound quality programmes

*   it is a prohibitively expensive exercise. Most households have three or four radios and it will cost each of these families about £200 to replace them. With twenty million households in the UK, that adds up to a replacement cost of between £3,000,000,000 and £4,000,000,000

*   it will not work in all parts of the country such as hilly area, thus removing radio programmes from people in those areas. Currently only 80% of the country is covered by digital as against 96% by FM

*   throwing 60,000,000 to 80,000,000 radios into landfill will not be too good for the environment

*   market forces will decide the issue without government interference
