Equal access to high quality education

Comment 28th July 2010

There is nothing which infringes our liberty more than disadvantaged status.  Poverty, unemployment and poor quality education are difficult to separate out.  Until we ensure that all our children have equal access to the same quality of education – and to the same level, should they wish, without taking on a lifetime of debt – large tranches of our society will never have the liberty to lead fulfilling lives.  This is not a magic bullet, of course:  but it would remove an early hurdle for millions.

Why does this matter?

My idea is important because moves are afoot to divert large amounts of public money to improve the schooling prospects for some children at the inevitable expense of those who have not their own voice due to their youth and have no-one to speak for them because their parents are themselves voiceless, disengaged and non-participating in our "Big Society"
