Abandon Coalition proposals for developing free schools and increasing the number of academies outside Council control.
Why does this idea matter?
The proposals are expensive, divisive and unnecessary. It will encourage a two-tiered education system and take money away from schools for deprived and lower achieving pupils. We also need some planning in an education system not the ability for middle class, eccentric parents to set up new schools. No doubt management consultants will be lapping up the large fees to be earned by advising misguided, slef-interested parents who don't really understand what is required in running successful education services. Elected local government should be running, and properly accountable for, schools; and the free market, with large profits to be made, should have no place.
Abandon this unnecessary ideological policy and save a lot of time and scarce resources.
