Full review of current 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 & 70mph speed limits

Comment 1st July 2010

The present system of speed limits at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 & 70 mph is far too complicated and leads to confusion as to what limit applies  – — No matter how careful and diligent you are in trying to keep legal  ! Its a nighmare on a long trip to keep on top of all the current highway signage, road direction and marking signs and constant, not always obvious, constant changes to speed limits –

I am not advocating increasing speeds just managing the whole present system in a far simpler and fair way that respects all road users – – say 20 in urban areas, 50 in rural areas. 60 on duals & 70 on motorways.

Why does this matter?

I am not advocating increased speed limits just more easily recognised, understood and managed speed limit steps.  The present overcomplicated system has far too many steps in current speed limits, does little to reduce serious accidents  and provides the unwary but often othwise diligent and safe motorist too easily as financial fodder for the Authorities.
