Health & Safety and Litigation

Comment 1st July 2010

Remove those areas of health and safety which insult the common sense of the average person.

Why does this matter?

Thousands of work hours are lost every year, sending people on course to ‘learn’ how to do everyday tasks, ie lifting course, ladder courses etc. In addition, judgements on litigation claims should also have the “common sense of the average person” test applied to them. Too often are claims upheld when it is apparent that anyone with an ounce of common sense would know that a hot cup of coffee could burn you or a packet of peanuts DOES contain nuts!!!(and if you can’t read the packet, what’s the point of putting a written warning on it?)
