Honour children’s equal right to protection from assault

Comment 2nd July 2010

Remove the defence of 'reasonable punishment' (Section 58, Children Act 2004) in order to respect children's rights and honour the UK's responsibilities under the UN
Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Why does this matter?

This will be a key step towards not only protecting vulnerable children, but towards reducing the levels of violence and aggression in families, relationships, communities and wider society.  It will promote cultural change and mutual respect.
