House purchase legally binding

1 Comment 7th July 2010

I want the law changed for England and Wales to match the Scottish system. That an offer to purchase a house is legally binding and you are committed to buy.

Why does this matter?

I want England and Wales to apply the laws on house purchase to be the same as in Scotland were once you make a bid to purchase a property you are legally bound to complete the purchase. This makes it fair on all parties that they are committed to the deal and no one wastes your money and time in what is a very stressful situation.

I fully agree. I have twice been through the entire conveyancing process only for one of the parties to pull out, wasting months and hundreds of pounds not to mention the stress it has caused me. Anyone who pulls out of a deal should be liable for the other sides costs
