Human rights abusers want theirs upheld

Where an individual has breached the human rights of another then that person cannot expect their human rights to be sacrosanct.

If they believe in the principle of human rights they should first respect other peoples human rights

Why does this idea matter?

I am continually reading about people who have engaged in criminal activity, terrorism and other less serious offences demanding that their human rights be upheld as part of their defence or to water down their punishment.
