Improve access for wheelchairs on trains

1 Comment 1st July 2010

Increase the current maximum dimensions for wheelchairs on trains, buses and taxis.

Why does this matter?

Because many people who depend entirely on their wheelchair for mobility are flatly denied the use of public transport. Mobility scooters are not included in my proposal because these are mobility aids whereas many wheelchairs are absolute mobility essentials.

One Response to Improve access for wheelchairs on trains

  1. Keith Mungham says:

Agreed that space in designated areas is inadequate, it is also severely reduced by overflowing luggage racks in the same area. A larger problem is that no train of several hundred seat capacity has more than 3 wheelchair spaces, including First Class. It is very unusual for us to be able to book journeys less than 2 weeks in advance. That’s NOT an accessible service at all!
