Lower VAT would mean lower prices and more employment

Comment 6th August 2010

If hair salons had a reduction in the VAT rate then this could be passed on to the customers which would help increase business and enable smaller salons, just in the VAT bracket to employ more staff. This is really important in small rural towns that are struggling to survive.

Why does this matter?

As a medium sized salon we cannot win. Try to increase business to employ more people and we are stung by tax. We try to give a good value for money service and if we didn't have to consider tax at 17.5% (soon to be 20%) we could pass the saving onto customers, employees and even begin to make a small profit ourselves. In small rural areas this kind of saving would make a huge difference to businesses becoming successful and helping to improve the economic climate of many dying market towns.
