Make domestic violence legislation gender-neutral

Comment 9th August 2010

Remove any reference to gender of either victim or perpetrator in any legislation, particularly that relating to domestic violence.

Why does this matter?

Why should there be a distinction?

Is a woman stalking or attacking a man in some way "less bad" than vice versa.

I am aware of the statistics on these issues, and the contoversy surrounding the validity of those statistics.

I am also concerned about the effect upon men, particularly youngsters,of their gender being singled out as perpetrators, and the effect upon women,of being categorised as victims.

One law should apply to all.
