Make easy the use of encryption and digital signing by all net users

Comment 6th July 2010

Modify the Regulation of Investigatory Powers act  to make use of encryption not taboo or legally risky.

Remove whatever trade restrictions are stoping strong encryption being standardised.

Encourage commonly available encryption and education so that people understand it.

Why does this matter?

Privacy

We don't send our paper mail by post card for all to see do we? We receive letters from banks, doctors, all sorts of institutions and can hope that within its envelope that letter is reasonably secure. How good it would it be if electronic communications could have some security too?

Security

Phising attacks would be significantly reduced if organisations like banks can send digitally signed mail and users understand what this means. We all know about the little padlock symbol in our web browsers – now add it to email too!
