Merge driving with a mobile phone with other driving offences.

Comment 2nd July 2010

The offences of driving without due care and attention, and dangerous driving could be used to prosecute people who use their mobile phones behind the wheel, if necessary giving them points codes. There should be no need to be so specific and long winded with our laws.

Why does this matter?

This is not an idea that increases individual freedom, I believe driving whilst using a mobile is dangerous and wrong.

But I think part of the problem with unnecessary laws is not when they ban or restrict something that shouldn't be banned or restricted, but when they duplicate other laws.

I think we are getting more and more specific offences, because politicians needed to be seen to do something more than the necessary updating of police guidance.
