Modification of Pet Travel Scheme

Comment 6th July 2010

When travelling to the euro zone with an animal with a  pet passport there is a requirement before entry to the UK to have the animal treated by a vet for fleas and ticks. This involves an injection and medication applied directly to the  skin each time. Why? We have fleas and ticks in the UK. I fully recognise the need for  the rabies part of the scheme and the animal being micro chipped.

The check at border control can still be carried out to ensure the rabies cover is still valid and the pet travelling is the one corresponding to the microchip recorded on the passport.

Why does this matter?

It will stop my poor cat becoming a pin cushion!!
