Motoring

Comment 6th July 2010

The default 30mph speed limit win built up areas should be changed to a 20 mph limit within settlement boundaries

Why does this matter?

A 20mph limit would reduce the fatalities on the roads.

Would actually facilitate traffic flow by reducing stop and start motoring.

Would lower noise pollution.

Would lower air pollution.

Would use less fuel.

Would actually speed the passage of individual vehicles within settlement boundaries

Would obviate the need for traffic calming measures.

Would contribute to de cluttering the built environment by reducing the needs for much signage.

Would save money on redundant road signs.

Would only require signage at settlement entry and exit points.

Would increase the safety of cyclists by reducing the relative speed differentials.
