NHS Purchasing

Comment 16th July 2010

The NHS is responsible for purchasing billions of £. The NHS national buyers and the regional consortia are duplicating the work of buyers in each trust but cannot negotiate a commitment to purchase. Each consortia has a chairman at £100,000 etc etc. The idea has failed once and they are trying to reinvent themselves. So sweep away the lot at a huge saving. The Government buyers are much better and all that is really needed.

Efficient buyers such as Salisbury NHS Trust could take on regional or national contracts for no extra money. A national webpage on which every trust could place their contracts would enable collaboration and save reinventing the wheel.

Retired NHS Trust Contracts Buyer.

Why does this matter?

Saves duplication and waste caused by 'Yes Minister' type decisions in the Civil Service.
