Parochial Church Councils

Comment 1st July 2010

720,000 registrations every year are now being undertaken by the Charities Commission for PCC members previously covered adequately by law without needing the registrations (16,000 churches x 45 PCC members / church).

There has been no recorded cases of the PCC walking off with the money in the past and there aren't any today.  The bureaucracy and cost involved is disproportionate to the level of risk and is a pointless significant extra cost.

Repeal the change of regulation and restore the original Church Law.

Why does this matter?

Registering 720000 people every year costs significant sums of money in people and time.  There is no noticeable gain from the change of regulation last year so the cost is disproportionate to any claimed gain.
