Police Reform

Comment 20th July 2010

How well is it understood that the Police should be operating with public consent ?   The bullying and intimidating way that members of the public are sometimes spoken to, is not acceptable.  It should be possible to uphold the law in a civil, constructive, and effective way, that does not risk the allienation of individuals and  communities.

A civil society requires a civil Police Force.

Why does this matter?

In order to undertake their role, the Police require the cooperation of the public.  The numbers of people who do not think well of them, or their methods, seems to have gradually grown overtime.

They often appear to be acting out scenarios in fiction, may be their access to the news media   have made them lose sight of what public consent means ?
