Procurement: end charges to see the tenders

Comment 4th February 2016

End the £545 charge to see tenders on http://www.contracts.mod.uk

End the £250 charge to get national alerts on https://www.supply2.gov.uk/subscriptions/cgi-bin/menu.cgi

Why does this matter?

If the public sector charged job applicants to read their job adverts, there would be an outcry.

  • It would be thought discriminatory.
  • It would be thought inefficinient or worse to exclude so many candidates.

So why exclude so many businesses from seeing the tender adverts?

Oh: this is what the coalition has already said: "We will promote small business procurement, in particular by introducing an aspiration that 25% of government contracts should be awarded to small and medium-sized businesses and by publishing government tenders in full online and free of charge."
