All packaging to be recyclable by law – else taxed
Companies should be responsible for the packaging they use
Why does this idea matter?
All packaging should clearly state what it is and how it should be recycled. The triangle sign with the number is fine but quite often you spend ages trying to find it. If the material is not recyclable the letter T should be shown to show that the supplier has been taxed on it as the only way of disposal is landfill. So they pay for the landfill costs.
Businesses where the council does not provide recycling as standard for their type of packaging or if the material is not recyclable, should provide a user friendly means of collecting their packaging. It would be up to the business to ensure that the council provided recycling and then they do the rest.
