REFORMING JURY DUTY

Comment 21st July 2010

Better financial assistance for people who are called to Duty.

We understand that it is one of the most important civic duties to be available when called but in this time of economic uncertainty, when we are all tightening our belts waiting for the dreaded rises and cuts that are coming our way, us 'the people' think it is unacceptable to be left out of pocket when we are ask to serve our country.

Why does this matter?

All we 'the people' are asking is if it's a requirement by law to attended then our employers and/or the government should be held accountable for putting many families in hardship (however short term). Currently the system is so unfair on all families whether married, co habiting or living alone with or with out children.  It is optional for employers not to pay 'our' wages for the time 'we' are at court and the 32? Pound a day substitute just isn’t good enough.

If attending jury duty put 'us' in financial difficulty the justification "Jury service is one of the most important civic duties that anyone can be asked to perform." doesn’t assist 'us' when its time to pay the bills.

Just simplify the system.  Government/employer 50/50 split
