regulation of green waste disposal [Trade]

Comment 9th July 2010

Small local tree surgeons are penalised by high costs of transport to landfill sites. Green trade waste could be burned in local areas, i.e. on farms where an arrangement is entered into with the landowner. Waste carrier licences are prohibitively expensive for one man businesses common in our area.

Why does this matter?

There is much talk of flytipping but this could be reduced if green waste could be disposed of more locally. The carbon footprint of transporting waste up to 50 miles to a site could surely be reduced if controlled burning was allowed on farmland. Small rural local business is being forced out of the market by the high cost of trying to do the right thing.
