Regulation that require public service to translate info into a dozen of languages

Comment 15th March 2013

I have been receiving letters from both local council as well as NHS hospital with various  information. In both cases it was mentioned that leaflets with same information could be received in Mandarin, Spanish, Farsi, Polish, Hindu and dozen of other languages

When I chalanged my hospital why they have to do translation in so many languages they said that they are required to do that by a regulation. But she was not sure which one- this is for pros to figur out.

Why does this matter?

This is a waster of public money we don’t have. I understand that in Scotland and Wales

there may be leaflets in Scottish and Welsh in addition to English. The rest is unneccessary.
