repeal of handgun legislation

Comment 12th July 2010

The ban on private ownership of handguns was a knee-jerk reaction to the 'something must

be done' response to the Dunblane murders  which could have been prevented had Central

Scotland police enforced the then existing Firearms legislation.   A repeal of the ban would

permit the private ownership of  handguns by certificated target shooters in respect of whom

there is virtually not evidence of criminal/careless misuse.  Further could we now see the

parts of the Cullen report which were sealed for 100 years.   Cover-up???

Why does this matter?

Target shooting requires mental and physical strength and coordination.   These

requirements impose a firm discipline upon the shooter and such training, particularly

for younger persons within clubs, is invaluable character development.
