Repeal Section 2(5) Human Rights Act 1998

Comment 24th July 2010

Where this abolishes the mandatory death penalty for Acts of Piracy on the High Seas.

Why does this matter?

This would end the ludicrous scenario (being enacted almost daily) of naval vessels standing impotently by while law-abiding seafarers are kidnapped off the coast of Somalia and elsewhere.

Should the Navy intervene and the pirates be arrested, they would be entitled to claim asylum in the UK and,in any case, could not be returned to their country of origin.

I wish I was joking.
