Repeal the The Coal and Other Mines (Horses) Order 1956

Comment 10th July 2010

If the UK Government repealed the Coal and other mines (Horses) order 1956 it would mean that Pit Ponies would be protected under the new Animal Welfare Act.

Why does this matter?

Currently it would be quite legal to use a Pit Ponies the new animal welfare act would not apply as this ancient piece of legistlation has been left in place.  Recently over 3000 Uk citizens have signed petitions calling for the three UK governments to do something to stop the future use of Pit Ponies.  This would achive that end with relative ease.
