repealing-unnecessary-laws/amend-the-public-order-act-with-using-threatening-abusive-or-insulting-words-with-intent-to-cause-a-person-harassment-alarm

Currently it can be an offence to call somebody names and I give the following link as a prime example:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8771721.stm

Why does this matter?

Whilst it can be construed as ignorant and even childish, it should never result in a criminal record for anybody.

Obviously it should still be possible to sue for defamation of character in a civil court and the burden of proof then should fall on the litigant to prove the facts are true. But name calling is so trivial that it should not end up in courts costing  £1000s to the tax payer and enriching the legal profession.

We all get called names by our friends, families and work colleagues and if we all used this law it would bankrupt the country.

Just tell the parties to play nicely and stop calling each other names!!!!
