Repeal/Scrapping of Police DNA Database for innocent people

Comment 2nd July 2010

I would like to see the scrapping of retention of DNA by the police of innocent people not convicted of an offence.

Further i would like to see a maximum time limit that the police can retain DNA of people convicted of relatively minor offences.

Why does this matter?

I feel that the police have to much power over people and the retention of DNA by the police of innocent people is an abuse of that power. Recently the European Court of Human Rights declared that the indiscriminate retention of DNA of innocent people ie not convicted of any offence by the police was illegal.

I support this ruling by the E.C.H.R and therefore i would ask the new coalition government to abolish this practice.
