Restrict police control of peaceful demonstrations

The employment of police in full riot gear at peaceful demonstrations with heavy handed use of 'kettling' techniques is an infringement of democratic rights and an inappropriate and inhumane way to treat citizens who wish to express their views. As we know it has already resulted in the death of innocent people but, as yet, little change of heart by the police.

We cannot pretend to proclaim the virtues of democracy whilst at the same time employing the tactics of a police state. Remove the riot gear, stop penning people into small enclaves and start treating citizens with respect.

Why does this idea matter?

It is important that we begin to structure a society that encourages freedom of expression without excessive state control, moving away from  'bully boy' tactics by police storm troupers who, it appears, are often little more than thugs under the protection of the law.
