Restructure taxation on pubs

Comment 16th July 2010

Taxation on alcohol / pubs should be restructured according to location / type of establishment to protect rural / community pubs and ensure town centre high turnover places pay a higher contribution towards public safety, health, protection etc.

Why does this matter?

The decline of the Public house in Britain is a tragedy. Alcohol is the cause of many social ills and health problems, but there is insufficient effort put into protecting the traditional community pub. Lower rates could be payed based on turnover, number of other licensed premises in the area, etc. Lower rates could be given as incentives for measures to encourage responsible drinking.
