Reword Sections 44 and 45 of the Terrorism Act 2000

These sections should be Rewritten in an amendment, to include caveats such as "The constable must have reasonable grounds for suspecting terrorist activity before a stop and search can be commenced"

Why is it important?

These sections of the Act give police officers far reaching, Orwellian powers to stop and search any member of the public "whether or not the constable has grounds for suspecting" that the person who has been stopped has items on their person which are likely to be used for terrorist acts. This a clear breach of civil liberties and has been recognised as such by the European Court of Human Rights which, in January 2010, ruled that these sections contravene the European Convention on Human Rights.
