Right to Patient Choice in Mental Health Services

Comment 1st July 2010

End the exclusion of all NHS mental health services from the Patient Choice agenda to ensure patients with mental health issues get an equal right to make choices about their treatment and care.

Why does this matter?

The law already covers mental health patients who lack mental competence to choose so the total exclusion of NHS mental health services from the Patient Choice agenda is stigmatising , discriminatory and unnecessary.. Most other patients groups have a legal right to Patient Choice and the NHS states that Choice encourages patient satisfaction , recovery rates and drives quality of services. The lack of Patient Choice in mental health isn't only discriminatory its harmful.
