S63 of 2008 Criminal Justice and Immigration Act aka dangerous Pictures Act

Comment 2nd August 2010

Repeal this measure. It is based on no evidence at all of harm caused by porngraphy. Distasteful, unpleasant yes – dangerous no. The law was based on a one person campaign backed by an authoritarian government and a piece rapid and now discredited research. You might as well ban the Bible because of the so called Bible John murders in Glasgow in the 1960s.

Why does this matter?

Because the legislation itself (unique in the free world) is an unecessary infringement upon free citizens sexual tastes. If acts are comitted with consent between adults the government has no place in making the possession of images of such acts a criminal offence. It criminalises people without any proper reason to do so.
