Scrap Insurance Premium Tax

Comment 6th July 2010

It is unacceptable for Government to ever tax compliance with the law.

Car insurance is a statutory requirement so fees for car insurance should not be subject to a tax.

Why does this matter?

It is an important principle to punish undesirable behaviour and reward desirable behaviour.

The punishments for insurance dodgers are in place and the vast majority of us comply with the law.  This compliance should be applauded, or at least accepted.  Applying a tax to the law abiding is punishing them for fulfilling their obligations while giving further justification to those who flout the rules.
