Scrap the Agency Workers Regulations 2010

Comment 15th July 2010

The use of temporary workers gives employers and employees much needed flexibility. It allows companies to increase their workforce on a temporary basis for seasonal increases in business.

The Agency Workers Regulations 2010 are due to come into force on October 1st 2011. This should be scrapped or seriously ammended.

Why does this matter?

The impact of this act will be to increase the cost of the use of temporary workers, reduce the use of temporary workers (without an increase in permanently employed workers) and possibly cause some employment businesses to close.

It will add to the vast amount of paperwork required in employing people on a short term basis.

It will increase the number of small 'cowboy' employment agencies who are non-compliant with all current legislation.

It will increase the number of claims to industrial tribunals encouraged by 'no win no fee' solicitors.
