The idea

Following a trip to Lisbon I was really impressed with the Segway and really believe that it is a great alternative to short car journeys. It's an electric powered vehicle which isn't much wider than a person so can easily be used on our existing pavements and cyclepaths, it's so easy to use ( I felt fully in control after 30 seconds getting used to it)

According to www.legalisesegways.co.uk they are not able to be used on pavements due to an act of 1835 and cannot be used on the road because they don't have pedals!

They are much safer than using a skateboard on the pavement and are so much smaller than disability scooters.

Why is it important?

This is "green" transport, 24 miles on around 1 hour charge from your normal electricty socket.

I believe that people would use them instead of their car for short journeys, commuting etc

They would ease congestion and would not be damaging the enviroment in the way that cars do, as there are no exhaust fumes.

They are also perfect for people with disabilities who struggle to walk but do not wish to use or have no place to store a mobility scooter.
