Sell all alcoholic drinks through dedicated retail outlets only

Comment 5th July 2010

Only allow alcoholic beverages to be sold through dedicated licensed shops.

These retail sites would be licensed and controlled by an independent agency that reports or is part of the government. Rather like ‘Liquor Stores’ in some other countries.

This idea gets away from the existing problem of offering cheap alcohol as an incentive to buy from a food retailer.

Why does this matter?

Alcohol abuse and over consumption create poor health and violent behaviour which are both a massive cost to the NHS and the Police Authorities.

Selling through dedicated and controlled outlets will enable the prices to be set to help prevent specific products causing abuse and violent behaviour.

The age limit for buying alcohol could also be raised, and more easily monitored through dedicated stores.
